Aims in Caring for the Elderly And Disabled
Most of us take our mobility for
granted and go out most days, whether it is to go to work, visit
friends, go shopping or just to get away from the four walls of home.
However for many elderly or disabled people, they have no means of
transport and may well become prisoners in their own home. This
involuntary captivity has a degrading effect on the mental and
physical well being of the elderly and disabled person, destroying
independence, confidence, self-esteem and purpose. Ultimately these
people become dependent on home help, more susceptible to illness and
very lonely.
Whilst much is being done with
the introduction of Rural Transport Schedules, many elderly and
disabled people find them difficult to use as they do not live near a
bus stop, or may require an escort in attendance, or may even require
a specialist vehicle with a tail lift.
The Coast & Country Bus Club
provides a specialist vehicle with a tail lift, two driver / escorts
who are there to give support and care when needed. The club provides
a wide variety of daily trips to cater for all needs and interests,
collecting and returning the client from home, all at an affordable
price.
By providing such a user friendly
service, many elderly and disabled people now find their independence
has improved, along with their confidence and self-esteem, giving them
purpose to their lives. This in turn improves their mental and
physical well being, in some cases reducing dependency on on carers
and susceptibility to illness. The carer also benefits from our
service giving them a well deserved respite.
The Coast and Country Bus Club is
working to introduce a greater number of elderly and disabled people
in rural and coastal areas to our service, which so many of our
members enjoy. Our philosophy is to provide a sustainable good quality
of life for the elderly and disabled.
